While I agree that Lennon is totally over-romanticized and over-hyped by so many Beatles fans, and that people who think he was some sort of saint are generally idiots who haven’t read into his life at all, reading this list has just made me angry. It’s quite funny how a large proportion of it is comprised of misinterpreted stories, taken out of context, etc.
I’m not excusing that Lennon was abusive to both Cynthia and Yoko, was a relatively terrible father and did almost kill a man for calling him gay, but for example labelling the song ‘Woman is the Nigger of the World’ as racist and misogynistic is fucking ridiculous (if you can’t see past the shocking title, you’re obviously not very intelligent). As is the assumption that him being homophobic/anti-semitic towards Brian is anything more than a joke, since if you had any knowledge of Brian and John’s relationship you would know John was considered Brian’s “favourite” (he found John incredibly talented and witty) and there were even rumours of an alleged sexual encounter between the two.
Also, if you read the articles linked in the post, it becomes evident that most of these scandals (i.e getting banned from Israel or making abusive comments towards disabled people) occurred when he was a young man (around 18-24, which is fairly young to be catapulted to literally the height of global success). To be honest I really don’t think it’s fair to pin Lennon down to a few (admittedly horrible) mistakes he made when he was barely an adult, as there are many musicians I am sure “anti-Lennons” like but whose scandals etc have not been discovered (bearing in mind pretty much the entirety of Lennon’s life has been recorded by various people due to the magnitude of his fame).
I don’t usually post huge chunks of text that aren’t in read-more’s, but I just feel like those who hate Lennon are usually just people who either say it to seem “different” or just, for some reason, don’t believe that people can reform and will remain the same throughout their life, apparently without regrets.
Yeah and the alleged “appropriation” of black and indian culture is just absurd, in music there was always influences between cultures and styles, you can see that in those years pretty much every rock band was ripping off black musicians (with due respect to both) so that wasn’t a proper argument neither.
Nice to see some smartness in my dashboard :)
BOOM! Sorry to post yet another photo of Kate but I mean, this girl is killing it right now! She just got back from months of touring and straight into promoting her movie Powder Room and her Christmas ep is streaming now.
This photo was taken a few months ago on our 14 hour shoot we did. So many great looks styled by talented Ali Mandelkorn xxx If you need an amazing stylist, she’s your girl.
